All ASW barriers can generate non-cooperative ASTERIX data when an aircraft or vehicle passes the infrared sensors. The Blind Spot-filler is designed to cover gaps, blind spots at taxiways in areas where other surveillance systems may not be able to provide effective coverage (e.g. Multilateration or Surface Movement Radars).
With accurate positioning, the ASW Barrier can monitor an aircraft or vehicle entering a taxiway segment, or an apron zone, within the airport manoeuvring area. This data will be sent in ASTERIX and can be used to support tracking of aircraft/vehicles whilst entering a surveillance blind spot area.
